2012 End of the World: Are you Prepared for it?
A lot of things have been said about the 2012 end of the world that it’s so easy to be scared if you believe it or to completely disregard it if you don’t. Whether you believe in the Mayan calendar or not and all the other hoopla about 2012, it would still help if you are prepared for any situation - even if it’s not a doomsday situation.
The Big Flood
If you have seen the movie 2012, then you have probably seen how the last natural disaster to befall the Earth (that basically made sure to wipe out everything in the planet) was a great flood. Our fear of this happening in 2012 is probably based on a great story in the Bible about the Great Flood. Whether this happens again or not in the 2012 end of the world, it would still be a good idea to be prepared.
Do you remember Hurricane Katrina and how it destroyed thousands of houses? Have you seen the news of places being engulfed by water in great floods with people standing on their rooftops just to be saved? Flooding can happen and whether it’s the end of the world or not, it would be a good idea to be prepared for this situation, particularly if your place has a history of flooding, hurricanes, typhoons and such.
Of course, your basic supply should include food, preferably canned or packed, that can get you and your family through for at least a week or two. Don’t rely on what you have on the fridge or plants that you may have in your backyard or garden since in cases of flooding and other natural disasters, electricity is usually the first to go and of course, what will you do with the plants in a flooded garden? It might seem weird but it would also be a good idea if you have an inflatable boat or even just life vest for you and your children. During floods, typhoons, hurricanes, etc., you can’t rely on electricity so you can’t rely on your television or your laptop to know about what’s happening. It will be best if you have a radio so you still have communication with the outside world - just in case you’re shut in your house.
Earthquakes
Most 2012 end of the world stories include one or two so it will be best if you and your family know how to deal with earthquakes. It is important to brief each and every member of safety rules when it comes to earthquakes so that you can minimize injuries and wounds. It would also be safer if big appliances or furniture are actually bolted or secured in walls and floors so that you minimize the possibility of these things falling on you or a family member.
2012 might not be the end of the world yet, but it doesn’t mean that you should be lax when it comes to the safety of your family.
