A Few Ideas For Calming Stress Relief
You’re stressed - aren’t we all? Stress is a normal part of everyone’s life. There is good stress - like having a baby or getting a new job - and there is bad stress - like health problems or a death in the family. Whatever is causing your stress, the goal is not to totally eliminate stress - our bodies need stress to function and to get us to take action - but the goal is to manage our stress. Here are some ideas for calming stress relief.
Mind Games
One idea for calming stress and getting relief is to list your stresses. For some reason, when you actually get them down on paper, there’s a good chance you’ll find they aren’t so bad after all. Our brains have a way of making things seem a lot worse than they actually are, as they replay the stresses over and over in our head. When you write them down, you don’t have to replay them anymore - your head can work on other issues instead.
You may have felt like the world was closing in on you and you couldn’t keep your head above water. When you write your stressful issues down you may find that you really are only stressed by your mother-in-law and her part in your life. Or your work situation. Or school.
Maybe you feel like you have a million things to do and that you can’t get them all done. Writing them down takes them out of your head so you don’t have to remember them all, and you will probably find that you have less to do than you thought you did. Also, having them in front of you will probably help you see how you can get more done in a logical way. You can group the trips together and save gas (pick kids up from school, drop of dry cleaning, drop off library books, pick up flowers for table, etc.) and you can see things that should be done before other things (empty dishwasher first, then refill it, then wipe off kitchen table and counters.).
Take Care Of Your Body
Taking good care of your body is a great idea for calming yourself and getting stress relief. When your body feels well loved, your brain can calm down and relax.
Exercise has a lot of power to help with calming and stress relief. For some, the idea of exercise may not appeal to them when they’re stressed, because maybe they just want to have their pity party and not do much of anything. But if they just get up and get started, the momentum can help them continue, and the endorphins will reward them for doing it.
Having a hot shower is also a great idea for calming yourself and getting stress relief. So is getting a massage, or squishing a stress ball in your hand.
