Guidelines On Treating Unfinished Pine Furnishings
There is no shortage of retailers eager to sell unfinished pine furniture and you may look for great bargains if you are looking to furnish your own home on a budget. You might have heard that pine is hard to work with and that is at least partly true. The problem lies in the fact that most pine is a mixture of hard and soft wood and these different woods will absorb stains at a different pace. This can make achieving the best finish a bit harder than if you were working with other type of wood.
Before you start worrying about how to finish unfinished pine furniture, you have to be sure you buy it from the right store. Stores may have different policies on the subject of damages and returns. If the furniture gets damaged when the store is sending it you ought to be eligible for at the least a replacement or a refund. Check the small print to make sure you are protected.
Finishing will start by sanding the furniture down properly and then cleaning up properly. The only way to do this properly is by using a vacuum as sanding releases fine dust which will destroy your finish if not taken out. Once you have vacuumed use a tack fabric to clear out all final traces of dust. You then have to condition the wood by applying the relevant conditioner with a cloth. Allow the conditioner to soak in but not to dry until you have removed any excess. Never sand again before it has dried which takes about thirty minutes but will depend on the air temperature and climate you are working in.
Apply a coat of stain working in the direction of the grain and then simply wait overnight to see the result. Don’t be tempted to start another coat until the initial one has totally finished or you will need to take the sander out again to your unfinished pine furniture.
