Server Lift - Day To Day Maintenance
The SL500 server lifter is a precision piece of equipment and if maintained properly, will provide you with years of service. The SL500 server lift makes your data centre working environment not only more productive and efficient but also reduces the amount of back problems and workplace injuries. Over and above that, the server lift makes heavy lifting of servers and batteries a lot easier than man handling these heavy expensive items. Maintaining your server lift would require that you do some regular maintenance, much of which is a matter of common sense.
As far as charging the SL500 server lifter is concerned, it is generally recommended that you continue to keep the server lift plugged in when it is not in use. This is even the case when you’re not going to be using the lift for extended amounts of time. This will not only ensure that the server lift is always topped up with charge for when you want to use it, leaving the server lift for long periods of time with out usage can lead to battery capacity loss. Simply use the included power cord to plug the server lift into one of the standard wall outlets that are available in your workspace.
A common misconception that many people have about this server lifter has to do with the stabilizer brake. When engaged, this brake provides you with sideways stability whilst it prevents the server lift from moving forward or backwards. You will just need to get used to the braking system so that you are using the equipment in the safest way possible. There may be times when adjustments are necessary, particularly if the brakes are not connecting with the floor properly. Just read the manual to determine the best practice for these situations, if in doubt do not brake if the wheels are not all touching the floor.
If the lift stops going up or down, it may be a problem with the upper or lower limit sensor switches It may be necessary to replace these or perhaps it could be a short in the wiring. It may be possible for you to correct this issue on your own but at times, it may also be necessary for you to contact the service department and have your server lift maintained professionally.
Your server lift will be able to be used for years with regular maintenance although at times, there may be some preventative maintenance that is available through an optional service contract. The main thing that is important for you to keep in mind when using the SL500 server lifter is that it should normally be plugged in when it is not being used. We discussed this at the beginning of the article, but it is important for you to keep this in mind to increase the life of the battery pack.
As well as an issued manual for day to day maintenance, further help can be found on line in the ServerLift resource centre.
