Visiting the Parang Mountains From Ranca

In the Parang Mountains, at an height of 1600 meters, you can discover the Ranca resort. From the city Novaci you can reach Ranca on an 18 kilometer winding route that is cutting through great landsapes which will surely take your breath away. These 18 kilometers are a part of the highest road in Romania, Transalpina, with the high point at 2145 meters in Pasul Urdele.

A tourist attraction in the winter but also in the summer, Ranca is currently still in development. With 1.5 kilometers of slopes on the Cornesu Mountain and one slope of about 800 meters on the Papusa Mountain Ranca attracts skiers and snowboarder but there are many more kilometers of slope to be developed. The slopes on Cornesu are served by tele skis and the one on the Papusa Mountain is served by a chair lift. After the sunset on slope on the Cornesu Mountain is lit. The Papusa Mountain might host ten more slopes on the north side in the future. In the summer Ranca is a departure point for various trekking trails in the Parang Mountains and further.

The chairlift on the Papusa Mountain will take you close to the peak offering easy access to free-ride areas. From the top of the chair lift one can choose to ski down the groomed slope or a short climb to the Papusa peak can begin. The mountain is not avalanche controlled so appropriate care is obligatory. Around the Papusa Peak you can find an excellent free-ride area with perfect powder maintained by the frecvent snowfall.

In the summertime you can easily touch tops like Papusa, Urdele, Mohorul, Iezer. Just a 2 hour hike could get you from Ranca to the Papusa Peak. With a 10 minute drive from Ranca you can reach the Urdele peak, at 2145 meters. If you want to reach the Iezer peak you will have to drive 5 more minutes after the Urdele peak and follow the Parangul Mare(2519 meters) and Galcescu Lake hiking trail, it’s an one hour hike. Mohorul Peak is just another hour away from the Iezer Peak and with an altitude of 2337 meters it is a great place to enjoy views as far as the eye can see. A selection of glacial lakes and reservoir lakes is available in the Parang Mountains. The area around Ranca is quite rich in tourist attractions, there are gorges, natural caves, monasteries and many more. Ranca Mountain Resort will make its mark in the future with it’s great mountain peaks within hiking distance and great scenery from one side to the other.

A city built on top of the world, this is the image of Ranca, with the lowest point at 1600 meters and the highest and 1800 meters. Looking up at the mountain peaks is special but what Ranca gives you is the view from a mountain peak, which is different from other resorts. The surrounding mountain peaks: Urdele, Papusa, Mohorul, Parangul Mare offer a great view but you can also look at the rest of the Gorj county from Ranca. The Ranca Resort has it’s own guardian, the Papusa Peak, with an height of 2135 meters.
