Yshlondon were invited along to the Louise Gray press day this week, giving us a sneak peak at their Spring/Summer 2011 collection.Walking into a gleaming black and white show room, the exclusive pieces summed up the serious glamour of its latest collection. The Grand Palais catwalk show played on the screens as mini tarts were offered as canapés around the room.Jewellery twinkled without inhibition; strings of pearls, feathers and tassels were in abundance, whilst rainbow coloured perspex bangles gave a definitive nod to the 1970’s. Clusters of gobstopper - sized gemstones and bronze lion heads also featured, conjuring every inch the modern Marie Antoinette. The overalllook was bold and Parisian.

A monochrome palette conveyed classic beauty but metallic tweeds gave a modern boost - and there was plenty of tweed to choose from.Artfully ruffled and weathered, the tweed was soft and typically ‘Chanel-esque’, styled with a dusty pink knit and shocking blue lips. There was also a beautiful jersey trench with quilted sections; jersey cropped up in various sporty guises (all emblazoned with the Chanel logo, of course). The skirts were long, and the silhouette was sleek. A simple floral brooch adorned a black ribbed dress, with short sleeves.Raincoats in red and yellow, complete with Chanel studs, gave the collection bold colour. The only print in the room was a graphic floral dress and shirt in hues of pink, orange and yellow.Heels were platform, in pink suede and various tweeds. Twisted gold cord made up the top of the shoe, amidst a distinct Japanese feel amongst the design of the footwear collection.

The quilting theme continued through to Chanel’s famed handbags, though this time, glittery ladybirds crawled across its luxurious leather.

One miniature handbag was encrusted with tiny green gemstones, looking like fallen raindrops - all of which combined to make for a magical shimmer cast across all the accessories.

The shine and sparkle continued on to Chanel’s new line of Spring/Summer cosmetics we were shown. “Even the eyeliner sparkles!’ we were told by the Chanel assistants. It was a treat to see such beautiful craftsmanship - a starry event that lit up our dark afternoon!
